DE QSO Party Chairman,

I had a great time in the DE QSO Party again this year!  We had 24 inches of snow on the ground, so there was no way we were going anywhere.  I had to take a break a few times

to shovel snow and attend to the occasional "honey do" job.  But, I ended up operating about as much as I did last year with about the same accumulated score.

Sunday afternoon, I had to take a break and switch to 30 meters (not a contest band).  A fellow in New Mexico saw my call spotted on his local cluster and sent me an email

asking for a sked to complete his 30 meter W.A.S. award.  As soon as I saw his email, I switched bands and gave him a call.  He came back immediately.  The connection was rough

but we clearly made a completed QSO.  His card went out on Monday, the first day of resumed mail service after the snow fall.

I worked lots of folks from the MN and NM QSO parties.  Instead of a signal report they reported their first names.  I think that is a great idea.  When my logging program came

up with the name or I heard it over the air, I would use it in the response.  This is a contest, but it is also a time for some person-to-person interaction.  I loved it when

old friends (like Joe, K8MP, a former Wilmington resident) called to say Hi, or when local friends, like Dick, W3EOT, joined me on frequency.

I'm looking forward to the QSO Party, 2011!

73,

Chet, WA3I
